Our Favourite Things About Designer Screen Shades

UV Protection With a View

The hallmark of screen shades is their ability to filter sunlight without blocking your view. Designer Screen Shades are engineered to:

  • Reduce glare

  • Block harmful UV rays (up to 99% depending on openness)

  • Keep rooms cooler on sunny days

  • Protect floors, furniture, art, and cabinetry

They’re especially popular for south- and west-facing windows where sun exposure is intense.

Choose Your Openness Level

Designer Screen Shades come in multiple openness percentages, which determine how much you can see through the fabric — and how much light gets in:

  • 1–3% openness → maximum privacy, strong UV protection

  • 5–10% openness → clearer view-through, ideal for living areas

  • More open weaves → best for showcasing scenery while diffusing light

This makes them incredibly customizable for different rooms and privacy needs.

Modern, Minimalist Fabrics

Choose from an exceptional palette of performance fabrics featuring:

  • Natural woven textures

  • Clean, modern neutrals

  • Subtle patterns and grid weaves

  • Designer colours

  • Eco-friendly options

  • Matching materials that coordinate with Designer Roller Shades

Their streamlined aesthetic pairs perfectly with contemporary homes, condos, and open-concept layouts.

Screen Shade Openness Factor

Higher openness percentages mean a more open weave, resulting in better visibility. The opacity of a fabric corresponds inversely to its openness percentage

Frequently Asked Questions About Designer Screen Shades

Before measuring, consider whether you want an inside or outside mounted window treatment. If inside, you’ll need to make sure your window is square by measuring horizontally at the top, center and bottom, vertically along both sides and center, and diagonally. Also measure the frame depth and take into account any window hardware that might obstruct the window treatment.

The final measure we will do for you to ensure a perfect fit.

Horizontal Application:

  • Width: 12 in. – 115 in.
  • Height: 12 in. – 120 in.

To ensure your window treatments fit perfectly and function properly, we recommend leaving installing to a Hunter Douglas expert.

There are many moving parts in any shade.  To ensure you have the right parts to fix your problem, contact us.  Our experience will guide you through the process with peace of mind.

A regular, light dusting will help keep your Designer Screen Shades looking like new. You can also try:

  • Vacuum gently using the brush attachment on any vacuum cleaner.
  • Use a can of compressed air or a hairdryer on the non-heat setting to dust off shades.
  • Spot-clean shades with a soft cloth or sponge moistened with lukewarm water. Add mild detergent if needed. Blot gently to avoid creasing or damaging the fabric. Rubbing can damage fabrics. Spot-cleaning may result in cleaner areas.
